Professional Teeth Whitening

While many patients have seen or heard about in-office laser whitening, research has proven that professionally dispensed take-home whitening kits produce the best results over the long term. Take-home kits incorporate an easy-to-use custom made kits. The gel is applied to the teeth using custom-made bleaching trays that resemble mouthguards.

These products contain peroxide(s) which actually bleach the tooth enamel. Carbamide peroxide is the bleaching agent and comes in several different concentrations (10%, 16%, and 22%). Peroxide-containing whiteners typically come in a gel and are placed in a mouthguard. Usage regimens vary. Some products are used twice a day for 2 weeks, while others are intended for overnight use for 1-2 weeks. If you obtain the teeth bleaching solution from your our office, we can make a custom-fitted tray for you that will fit your teeth precisely.

Our Beaufort SC office offers take-home whitening kits which our office recommends.

What causes teeth to become stained?

Many of our patients wonder how their teeth have become so stained over the years. There are actually several reasons why some people’s teeth become stained. The following beverages can greatly increase your chances of staining your teeth over time:

Tooth discoloration can be caused by:

  • Tobacco use
  • Prolonged consumption of coffee, tea, wine
  • Medications
  • Trauma or injury
  • Genetics
  • Overexposure to fluoride
  • Poor oral hygiene

Not only are you running the risk of staining your teeth when you consume these beverages over time, but you are also putting yourself at risk for forming cavities, which can lead to serious oral health issues if not taken care of right away.

If you have yellow-stained teeth and you are desperate to change that, come visit Dr. Covington to see what your whitening options are. We invite you to call us to schedule your consultation appointment. You will be left with a brand new, gorgeous smile that will have you smiling from ear to ear for many years to come!

What is the best option for whitening my teeth?

Discolored teeth are a common cosmetic dental concern. Yellow tinted, brown spots or blotchy teeth are unattractive and can cause you to hide your smile. A whiter, brighter smile lets you share your smile with confidence.

Discoloration of teeth can be caused by a combination of many different factors. Genetics, lifestyle habits, and diet all play a role in the appearance of your teeth. While tooth discoloration is common as patients age, premature tooth discoloration could be a result of medication, injury or other issues.

Dr. Covington provide patients with a comprehensive and personalized cosmetic consultation and oral health exam prior to treating discolored teeth. Our goal is to enhance the beauty of your smile while protecting and improving your overall oral health. We focus on treating underlying dental issues to ensure a lasting, gorgeous smile.

Cosmetic teeth whitening procedures can help patients feel more confident, taking years off of the appearance of their smile. From professional whitening kits to tooth bonding and porcelain veneers our dentists offer options for enhancing the esthetic of your teeth.

Professional Vs. Over The Counter Whitening Options

Whitening teeth with professional whitening gels provide superior results with a reduced risk of side effects. Professional whitening solutions are specially designed to reduce sensitivity and to protect soft tissues. In office and take home professional whitening treatments are more efficient, effective and safer than over the counter alternatives.

Lowcountry Family Dentistry we take the time to provide tailored treatment options for all dental concerns. Professional teeth whitening can be customized to help you achieve the results you desire. Teeth whitening treatments can be used for a quick smile makeover, or as part of a more comprehensive treatment plan.

For many patients, whitening gels can achieve the desired look. For patients with stains caused by injury or medication more advanced cosmetic treatment may be required to achieve an optimal result. Dental bonding and porcelain veneers are commonly used to address tooth discoloration that is resistant to whitening gels.

With a customized take-home whitening kit, whitening your teeth can help you feel and look your best. If you would like to have a whiter, brighter smile, contact us to request a cosmetic consultation to learn more about your options. Call our office at (843) 986-0177 or request a consultation using our convenient online appointment form.
