If you are missing multiple teeth, Dr. Ashley Covington provides several types of dental implants in Beaufort, South Carolina. A implant supported bridge can provide long-term and highly effective results for patients missing multiple teeth. Multiple missing teeth can be replaced using several separate dental implants to replace individual teeth. Dr. Covington can also replace a whole row of teeth. There are two ways we can accomplish this: with implant-supported dentures, or with the use of a dental bridge supported with dental implants to replace consecutive lost teeth. Patients are trading in their old dentures for implant-supported dentures to vastly improve comfort, reduce diet restrictions, and more.
Types of Dental Implants For Multiple Missing Teeth
The type of dental implants you receive will depend on the number and location of your missing teeth as well as your overall oral health. Dr. Covington will conduct a comprehensive dental exam to determine which type of dental implant is right for you. We only recommend treatments that closely align with your dental health goals. Therefore, it is important to discuss all of your concerns and health issues with Dr. Covington during your dental exam.
Dental Implant Secured Bridge
A dental bridge is often used to replace several consecutively missing teeth. Traditionally a dental bridge is secured using prepared adjacent teeth, essentially damaging healthy teeth. Dental implants secured by a dental bridge provide more structural support for the jaw and bite and require less maintenance. Two or more implant posts will be surgically implanted in the jaw. These posts will permanently secure the dental bridge restoration.
Dental Implant Secured Denture
If you are missing an entire row of teeth, either on top or bottom, Dr. Covington recommends implant dentures. Denture implants can be supported by as few as four strategically placed dental implants. Denture implants have a 95% or better success rate and equally high level of patient satisfaction. While this procedure does require a greater initial investment compared to dentures alone, implant dentures offer the best long term benefits. Dentures do not support the structure of the jaw bone and patients may experience gradual bone loss and deterioration of the structure of the jaw. Implant supported dentures also help to maintain the bone structure in the face. While there is a greater investment initially, implant supported dentures provide superior long term benefits. Denture implants also allow patients to enjoy a diet without restriction.
